As a result of unsuccessful negotiations, the expiry on 30 June of the 15-day strike notice filed with the Total Gabon Executive Board. The strike concerns all the facilities of Total Gabon, a subsidiary of Total French Group, where its staff operates, was initiated Monday by the National Organization of Petroleum Employees (ONEP) to defend the interests of Total Gabon employees.
The strike should be followed in Libreville, Port-Gentil, on the sites of Anguille, Mandji Island, Cape Lopez and Torpille, it is said.
An attempt at conciliation had been initiated successively from 29 June to 1 July at Port-Gentil, at the initiative of the Special Inspector of Labor in charge of the petroleum sector, and from 2 to 6 July under the auspices of the Minister of Labor and former secretary general of ONEP, Arnauld Calixte Engandji Alandji.
The various points contained in the specifications were not respected, so the strike was triggered. ONEP assures however that a minimum service will be respected.
As a historical operator in oil exploration and exploitation in Gabon, Total Gabon had increased its net income to $ 23 million in the first quarter of 2018, which allowed it to multiply by five its profits following the increase in the selling price. the two crude grades marketed in Gabon, the Mandji crude and the crude Rabi light Turnover reached $ 208 million in the first quarter of 2018, a limited decline of 1%, the price effect offsetting the lower volumes sold.
The consequences of this strike could affect the oil sector during this week.
