Nairobi: 4th edition of the Amcham Business Summit
The AmCham Business Summit is the most prestigious forum between the U.S. and East Africa for forward-thinking companies planning to expand into Kenya and the East African region. Organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Kenya and its partners, it’s not just an event; it’s a transformative experience where industry leaders converge to forge lucrative deals and connections.
4th AmCham Business Summit calls for stronger partnership and investment in U.S.-East Africa trade
The summit is the premier forum for U.S. and East African business engagement on trade and investment in the region.
The fourth edition of the American Chamber of Commerce Kenya (AmCham) Regional Summit, the leading platform for strengthening bilateral trade and investment between the US, Kenya and East Africa, will be held on April 24-25, 2024 in Nairobi, Kenya.
Kenyan President William Ruto is confirmed as chief guest, heading a government delegation to the summit which aims to expand business opportunities and markets.
Several senior US government officials are also expected to attend. Nearly 1,000 delegates, including business and government delegations from the USA and the entire East African region, are expected to attend.
AmCham Chairman Peter Ngahu noted that the summit would explore opportunities to promote sustainable and inclusive growth while increasing investment in Kenya and the East African region.
As we celebrate years of shared values and interests, the AmCham Business Summit stands as a beacon of opportunity. We look forward to seeing how we can capitalize on these opportunities, as we remain committed to fostering investment in East Africa.
Maxwell Okello, CEO of AmCham, encouraged delegates to make sure they attended: “The summit provides a platform to explore the vast trade and investment opportunities available to us, fostering economic growth and prosperity in our region. We are delighted to bring the business community together to chart a course for enhanced cooperation in key areas such as trade and investment, technology, sustainable development, healthcare and economic growth, while nurturing meaningful links between businesses and nations“.
A wide range of topics critical to the region’s economic development, including the future of trade and investment between the US and East Africa, climate action, digital transformation and sustainable finance for East African economies, will be addressed in a series of panel discussions, presentations and roundtables led by experts from the public and private sectors.
East African economies are expected to record the best regional economic performance on the continent, with growth rates in excess of 5%, according to the African Development Bank’s East African Economic Outlook.
Despite the projected growth, East African economies still face persistent barriers to trade and investment, including illicit trade, counterfeiting, currency volatility and inflation, hampering the region’s business landscape.
In 2022, the USA became Kenya’s largest export market, with around $890 million worth of goods exported to the US. In addition, the U.S. exported approximately $600 million in goods to Kenya, reflecting a relatively balanced trade relationship that is expected to intensify as the U.S. and Kenya negotiate a first-of-its-kind bilateral trade agreement between the U.S. and a sub-Saharan African country, known as the Strategic Trade and Investment Partnership.
