Dakar: Workshop on the Contribution of Migration to Development in Africa
The Workshop on the Contribution of Migration to Development in Africa will take place in Dakar on January 17-18, 2025, organized by the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). This event will bring together representatives from Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Mauritania, Senegal, and Zimbabwe. It aims to examine the impact of migration on the economic and social development of the African continent.
The workshop discussions will focus on national experiences and best practices to maximize the benefits of diasporas for sustainable development. Participants will include migration experts, policymakers, researchers, and representatives from international organizations.
Over these two days, presentations by researchers and experts will provide in-depth analyses of recent migration trends and their impact on African economies. Attendees will also have the opportunity to share their experiences and discuss effective migration policies.
The workshop will serve as a platform to develop concrete recommendations on how public policies can support economic development and social cohesion through migration. Training sessions and working groups will also be organized to enhance participants’ skills in managing migration flows.
Additionally, discussions will center on the need to strengthen regional and international cooperation for effective migration management. The workshop’s findings will be compiled into a detailed report, which will be shared with policymakers and stakeholders across the continent.
This event represents a valuable opportunity to advance discussions on the role of migration in Africa’s development, fostering an evidence-based approach and practical solutions.
